Hi! I’m Megan and welcome to my blog. Here I will be writing about body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) and anything mental health related. Body-focused repetitive behaviors are over-grooming behaviors such as hair pulling (trichotillomania), skin picking (dermatillomania), biting, and chewing, etc.
I’ve pulled my eyelashes since the 4th grade. Eventually, I moved on to pulling my eyebrows. I also bite my nails and pick at the skin around my nails. Trichotillomania has been the worst for me though. I’ve had no eyelashes and barely any eyebrows on and off throughout the years.
I would like to help you with breaking your BFRB. So what does that mean exactly? Well, it’s going to look different for everyone. Some people may have a goal of stopping their BFRB completely. Others might want to pull, pick, bite, or chew less. Breaking your BFRB might mean breaking free from the shame and stigma associated with having a BFRB. To me, it also means breaking the chain and gaining awareness about your BFRB.
It’s going to be different for everyone and that’s perfectly fine! I’m working on breaking my trichotillomania (hair pulling). And I’d like you to join me on this journey. I want to share tips I’ve learned. And mistakes I’ve made so you can avoid them. I want to guide you toward resources that are available.
Here are some random facts about me:
- I love pickles. Particularly dill pickles, but I do like sweet too.
- I enjoy playing the piano. I’m a bit out of touch and need to practice, but it’s fun.
- I like being out in nature.
- I love learning new things.
- I’m learning Spanish.
- Lord of the Rings is one of my favorite movies.
